Summerville Skates

What: Glide across the ice through the holiday season at this outdoor skating rink in Summerville. Rotating vendors and food trucks will provide concessions to warm you up on Friday and Saturday nights. Rental skates are available.

Annie Jr. and Frozen Jr.

Interactive Ghost Hunting

What: Become a paranormal investigator on the streets of Charleston. This walking tour will allow you to investigate real history using the paranormal tools of the trade. Discovery Day: Fur and Feathers

What: Bring your tiny tot to the museum to touch textiles and create a collage. Toddlers will take a scavenger hunt through the Fur and Frost: Carolina Winters exhibit and handle fabrics that are soft, scratchy, shiny and sheer. Discovery Day programs are designed for learners age 2 to 5 to explore the museum, historic houses and Dill Sanctuary with a parent or guardian.

Solo Art Exhibits

What: Quilter and textile artist Renée Fleuranges-Valdes brings her energetic and exuberant nature to her fiber art, showcasing black femininity. The show debuts two of her latest series, “Simple Pleasures” and “Curvy Ladies,” alongside a select few of her other well-known pieces. In her exhibition Little Flat People, local artist Pascale Sexton Bilgis presents little clay figures set among wood frames and panels with vibrant acrylic backgrounds.

Black Ink Book Festival

What: Dozens of authors and publishing professionals will be featured in the 2022 Black Ink: A Charleston African American Book Festival Jan. 13-15. This free virtual festival is packed with workshops, programs and presentations, including the keynote address by award-winning and best-selling romance author Beverly Jenkins on Jan. 15.

Speaker Series: Bruce Ragsdale

What: The Library Society will host author Bruce A. Ragsdale for an evening lecture on his new book, “Washington at the Plow: The Founding Farmer and the Question of Slavery.” In the novel, Ragsdale explains how George Washington spent more of his working life farming than he did at war or in political office.

Reader Meet Writer

What: Main Street Reads will host the first Reader Meet Writer event of the year with Diane Chamberlain, author of “The Last House on the Street.” Chamberlain’s interest in the 1965 SCOPE project, in which white college students traveled to the South to help register Black voters, inspired and informed her timely new book.

‘Menopause: The Musical’

Lighthouse Inlet Bird Walk

What: Participate in a bird walk that will focus on the incredibly diverse northeast end of Folly Island. Once the home of a Coast Guard station, this Heritage Preserve protects maritime forest, beach, dune, and marsh habitats for wildlife. This site boasts one of the largest bird lists in South Carolina.

Conversations with a Curator: Early Days Gallery 

What: Celebrate the Charleston Museum’s 249th birthday with a tour of the museum’s earliest collections. The Early Days gallery reflects the Museum’s long history from its founding in 1773 to the late 20th century. Join Curator of Historical Archaeology Martha Zierden in the Early Days gallery for the story of the museum’s institutional history and a closer look at some of its earliest antiquities.

Taste of Folly

Snowboard Rail Jam
