The recent Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2021 has helped to revive the economic development of various industrial and services sectors affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In total, SIBS 2021 recorded MYR217.6 millions of potential negotiated sales, nearly reaching the sales record in the previous SIBS 2019 (of MYR247 million).
The four-day summit also surpassed the initial set target of 10,000 visitors with a turnout of 25,410 visitors, ranging from business owners, importers, wholesalers, distributors to retailers and members of the public.
SIBS 2021 was officiated by His Highness Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the Crown Prince of Selangor, who represented His Royal Highness Sultan Selangor.
His Highness Crown Prince of Selangor also visited Invest Selangor booth and launched the Selangor Biotechnology Action Plan 2021-2030, an initiative that is developed to identify high potential biotechnology subsectors to propel the industry in the state further.
Although the economic downturn continues to plague the country due to the pandemic, the SIBS successfully assembled 494 exhibition booths (physically) and 623 exhibition booths (virtually).
Thirty buyers from four countries registered and participated in business matching sessions at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre during the exhibition days, while 164 buyers from 31 countries registered and participated in the business matching sessions virtually.
Selangor International Expo (MEDIC) 2021, one of the two new exhibitions held in SIBS 2021, also hosted a dedicated conference, the Selangor International Health Conference (SIHC) 2021, that brought a total of 36 medical expert’s speakers from four countries – Austria, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.
On the other hand, Selangor Industrial Park Expo (SPARK) 2021 also received good reviews and feedback from trade visitors. The exhibition was also participated by relevant technical agencies and local councils in Selangor, making it a one-stop centre for potential investors to seek and discuss their industrial development plans in Selangor.
The Selangor ASEAN Business Conference (SABC) 2021 kicked off with three webinar series in May, August and the last one in November.
Themed ‘Sustaining Growth within ASEAN through Innovation’, the webinar series presented nine industry experts as the speakers from three countries, including Indonesia, India and Malaysia.
For the one-day conference in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, SABC 2021 presented 23 speakers from five countries, namely Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Australia and Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the inaugural Selangor Aviation Show 2021 (SAS2021) from November 25-2 touched its peak as a success beyond expectations, having achieved almost 5,000 visitors target over the three-day event.
This show assembled 43 exhibitors from seven countries representing the world’s best aerospace and aviation industries.
Eighteen static aircraft were displayed, among the prominent static aircraft exhibits were the E195-E2 regional commercial jet from Embraer, T625 GÖKBEY from Turkish Aerospace, Piaggio P-180 Avanti EVO from Piaggio Aerospace and the Airbus Helicopters AS350 Écureuil.
Thirteen memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on various aerospace industry subsector collaborations were signed, covering various collabourations such as vocational workforce development joint venture for the aerospace industry, development of the Selangor Drone Centre of Excellence, simulator training hub, one-stop MRO centre for drones and proposed development of seaplane manufacturing facility.
